National Hotel

Zermatt, Four Star

National Hotel can boast an old family tradition. The hotel was built in pure art nouveau style in 1896 by the Wyder family, and opened as the Garni-Hotel Haus Wyder. As there was no family member to take over the hotel, it was sold by the Wyder family in 1936 and was renamed National Hotel. The interior of the house however still retains some reminders of those early days, for example the stairway with its wonderful art nouveau windows and banisters, the entrance hall, or one of the dining rooms. This is a very attractive chalet style hotel and the extensive use of varnished wood and white paint on its exterior gives the building a very comfortable and traditional appearance. The lobby is pleasantly furnished with a fireplace in the corner lending it a very homely atmosphere.
